Zojirushi Rice Cooker

According to Amazon.com there are over 150 owners who reviewed Zojirushi rice cookers in particular the Neuro Fuzzy NS-ZCC10 and gave it 4.5 stars out of 5.

It must be noted that in some reviews it stated that the rice cooker had to be sent to an authorized dealer to have the battery replaced about every 5 years. This model does not come with a steam basket. The big brother to this model is the 10-cup Zojirushi Neuro Fuzzy Rice Cooker & Warmer NS-ZCC18.

When cooking rice in the Zojirushi rice cooker keep in mind what kind of rice you are cooking. Cooking times vary with the types of rice you cook. For example, long-grained rice which is typical in America should get 1-3/4 cup of water to ever cup of rice. Jasmine rice should get 2 cups of water with every cup of rice and with Basmati rice you need to rinse it with 3 to 4 exchanges of water and then it get 2 cups of water to one cup of rice.

Keep in mind that with these cookers the measurements set for the Japanese market and not the American and European markets so make sure you get the right water to rice ratio and you will always come out with perfect rice. Not to mention that Japanese models are made for everyday cooking unlike some of the knock off brands.

Here are few tips on how to cook rice with the Zojirushi Neuro Fuzzy NS-ZCC10.

  1. Ignore the manual for directions on how to cook the rice. Follow the instructions on the box or bag that your rice comes in.
  2. To avoiding browning the rice fluff it when it is done cooking and then let is steam while it is in the "Keep Warm" setting.
  3. Use the best rice you can get such as Jasmine or Basmati. The fresher the rice the better it tastes. Converted rice such as Uncle Ben’s don’t fare well.

With any rice cooker you will experience spitting of steam when you use the rice cooker to full capacity. With smaller quantities you won’t get this spitting as much if at all. Just as you can expect spitting from cooking rice on the burner you can expect the same from any rice cooker but maybe not to the same degree. And with the Zojirushi rice cooker clean up is very easy because of the non-stick bowl.

Tip: To help avoid this spitting rinse your rice several time before cooking it to remove the excess starch from the rice. You will see that moisture will vent through the hole on the cover properly. You’ll also note that the steamer inset is small but handles frozen vegetables with ease.

The unusual indigo blue color is a nice change from the boring white that comes with most cookers. A nice piece of eye candy in the kitchen is always nice for change.

Dollar for dollar the Zojirushi rice cooker is worth the cost from cooking to cleaning and will last a lifetime.
